The Sustainability Office (SO), as a staff unit within Digitalization and Sustainability Department, serves as the central point of contact for sustainability management at KIT. We support KIT’s sustainable development and, on behalf of the Executive Board, accompany all stakeholders at KIT in establishing sustainability as a cross-cutting issue within the core areas of research, teaching, innovation and transfer, as well as within KIT as an organization.
From integration into KIT’s strategy, through streamlined concept development, to support for implementation, we are committed to the sustainable development of KIT as an institution — from everyday worklife to infrastructure. Through broad participation and networking at KIT, we enable bottom-up processes for the sustainability transformation.
Our tasks include:
- Strategy development / support for processes and projects related to sustainability transformation under the leadership of the Executive Board
- Supporting and sustaining the Basis Project Sustainability
- Initiating and supporting sustainability / transformation projects aligned with core tasks and within KIT as an institution
- Development and implementation of sustainability management, including monitoring and reporting of data and facts on sustainability at KIT
- Designing and implementing sustainability communication at KIT
- Networking

From June 28 to July 18 in Karlsruhe, we will be taking part in STADTRADELN 2026. Everyone at KIT is invited to join the "KIT-radelt" team - it is of course possible to form individual sub-teams.
